Adur Junior 2014 Results

Bexhill headed to Shoreham on Saturday 1st March for the inaugural Junior Head Race. In total Bexhill entered 7 crews, 6 of with were new combinations with five new members completing their first ever race.

Division One

In the first division the Boys J16 4X of Tom, Max, Adam and Harry came a respectable 3rd, however boat failure meant that they rowed almost a third of the race with only three people rowing due to the sleeve on Adam’s blade coming off. This bad luck meant the crew dropped down the field but provides a lesson to everyone to check their equipment before going afloat and we would rather have the bad luck now than in the season. The newly formed mixed crew of Katherine, Julia, Toby and Abbie came a very respectable 2nd place only 10 seconds off Shoreham. This new combination shows some promise for the season to try and defend their 2013 Championship title. The final crew in the first division was Georgia and Charlie rowing in the Girls J16 2x. This is the first time this combination have rowed together let along raced and they came home with a solid 2nd place.

Division Two

Will Knapp in his second ever sculling race came a close 2nd by 7 seconds from Worthing, showing some good progress since the Thames Valley Trail Head and looking to do well in Novice Sculls this season. The 2013 Championship Girls J16X were looking to push the Shoreham and Worthing girls all the way in this popular category and they did just that. The new combination of Katherine, Charlie, Georgia and Abbie rowing for the 1st time together impressed coming 3rd only 14 seconds off the lead with only 1 second separating the winners Worthing and 2nd placed Shoreham. It looks like many crews fancy themselves for this category so it should be an interesting watch for spectators. Next the Mixed J16 4+ of Tim, Wei, Ellie who were all doing their first race and Millie came a solid 3rd only 6 seconds off 2nd. This was a solid performance by this crew gaining valuable experience for the season ahead. The final crew in the division was the Boys J16X of Max and Adam. This new combination rowed well to come home second behind Worthing. Perhaps they could have gone faster but the bad luck from the first division followed them, a boat inspection after the race located a hole in bottom of the boat so the bow was full of water! Overall some good performances for all the rowers taking part which shows some potential for the 2014 season. Keep up the training and start knocking off those seconds!
