Following on from the Junior Head on the Saturday Bexhill headed back to Shoreham on Sunday 2nd March for the main Head Race. In total Bexhill entered 12 crews, securing an impressive six wins.

Division One

Win No.1 came from the Mens Senior 4+ of Kieran, Mark, Matt H and Doug with Rach coxing. The crew set the fastest time of the division in an impressive 13:37 mins. Next up were the vets picking up their maiden win and Bexhill’s 3rd win of the day in this new combination of Dave J, Marc C, Warren H, Remuna P with Ash coxing, looks like the training is paying off guys. The Mens Novice Four of Adam, Max, Lee and Will with Nick coxing rowed well in the tough conditions to take 4th place in a very competitive novice category.

Moving onto the small boats Bexhill had two entries in the Ladies Senior Pairs with the A crew of Claire and Sophia coming home in 1st place, 8 seconds ahead of the 2014 Champions from Shoreham, this is an impressive result considering the girls lack of boat time. The B crew of Katie and Maisie making the debut in this category rowed well to come home in 6th place.

Division Two

In the second division the weather had worsened making the course very challenging as there was wind against tide, with the last part of the course being quite rough. Despite this all the Bexhill crews boated safely, raced and the came ashore in one piece so well done to all crews that raced in this division and to all the people helping crews in and out. Setting the fastest time of the day and winning the Mens Senior Pairs Kieran and Mark picked up Bexhills 5th win of the day. The B Crew of Josh and Jack, making their debut in this category came in a respectable 2nd. Other 2nds came for Phil in the Mens Junior Sculls and the new ladies Senior 4+ combination of Claire, Sophia, Maisie and Rach, with Shoreham taking the honours in both categories both crews will be looking to improve for the next race. Despite hitting one of bridges the new Junior Pair combination of Lee and Will managed to complete the challenging course and conditions to take 5th place.

Bexhill’s 6th and perhaps most impressive win came from the Ladies Novice 4+ crew of Abbie, Jany, Bethan and Haz with Nick coxing. This is the crews first ever win by the small margin of 2 seconds, and shows good potential to build on this ready for the season ahead.
